BHADERWAH, June 7: The students of Government Higher Secondary School Sartingal staged protest against the Education Department for its failure to provide adequate infrastructure, teaching staff and drinking water facilities in their institution.
Amid slogans, a large number of students assembled outside the school premises under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Bhaderwah unit and took out a rally to Sartingal Chowk, where they held protest against the Government, Education Department and administration for their failure to redress the demands of the students.
The protesters also blocked Sartingal link road connecting Bhaderwah-Chamba inter-state road, Bhaderwah-Sartingal road and Sharekhi road at Sartingal Chowk for one hour, due to which passengers moving towards Sarthal, Bani, Bhejja, Thanala and Sharekhi got stranded.
“360 students are enrolled here in this institution and only 3 rooms are available for them. We are forced to take our classes in open sky”, said Abhimanyu Padha, a protesting student.
“Due to lack of infrastructure and teachers, our precious time is being wasted. Whenever we met the authorities of the Education Department, they only assure us of doing the needful but do nothing”, said Samreen Ul Nisa, a student of class 10th.
The protesting students appealed to the concerned authorities to intervene in the matter, so that their studies don’t get affected.
Later, Tehsildar Bhaderwah Masood Ahmed along with SHO Bhaderwah Inspector Muneer Khan reached the spot and assured the protesting students to redress their demands at the earliest.
After getting assurance from the administration, the students called off their protest, resume their classes and vehicular movement was restored on the road.
