Students leave to participate in Himalayan Trekking Prog

JAMMU, June 11: The sixth group of Tawi Trekkers J&K comprising 48 students including 26 girls of St Xavier Senior Secondary School, Barnai, left today for Manali to participate in the Himalayan Trekking Programme being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K in Moungri area of J&K and Manali and Mcleodganj area of Himachal Pradesh.
The group is being led by two trained mountaineers and senior members of the club Manik Slathia and Shashi Kant Sharma. Three representatives of the school including its Vice Principal Mridhu Padha and two teachers Suzzane and Jenny also accompanied the group. With this the participation in this year’s Himalayan Trekking Programme has gone up to 276 including 19 teachers.
The group was flagged off by Vice Principal of St Xavier Senior Secondary School Mridhu Padha in presence of Senior President of Tawi Trekkers Ram Khajuria, General Secretary Shawetica Khajuria, staff members and parents of all the participants.
Meanwhile, the first four groups of trekkers have reached back after a thrilling experience of rafting in the Beas river and crossing the ice cold waters of a hilly nullah at Manali and memorable experience of trekking in the serene, calm and cool pines and learning the techniques of rock climbing and artificial river crossing at Moungri.
The club is now finalizing its arrangements to organize short treks to the elegant Triund meadow (10000ft) in Dharamshala area of Himachal Pradesh. However, the participation in each group will be restricted to 8 persons. The new programme specially tailor made for boys and girls in the age group of 14 to 18 years is likely to start from June 19.
