JAMMU, Apr 20: Joining hands against alleged dictatorial approach of the Jammu University Vice-Chancellor, different student unions today demanded removal of Prof R D Sharma as VC of the university.
Addressing a joint press conference, representatives of NSUI, Gujjar Bakerwal Students Welfare Association and NSF accused the Vice-Chancellor of trying to muzzle the voice of students as well as employees, whosoever raises voice for their rights.
“Lawful voice of the university students is being  gagged by the JU  administration and  whosoever shows dissent,  is served with notices and threats,” said Sunny Parihar of NSUI, who informed that instead of taking action against SKUAST Kashmir students, who allegedly disrespected National Anthem during inaugural function of Sports event in the university on April 3, JU  issued notice against its students who led a  peaceful protest against the failure in taking action against the Kashmiri students.
Nazma Shamshir, spokesperson of Gujjar Bakerwal Students Welfare Association (GBSWA), rued that the JU authorities not allowing to hold even a cultural programme on the campus, which speaks of lawlessness in the university.
While elaborating, she stated that recently GBSWA requested the university administration to allow them to hold a cultural programme ‘Sada-e-Gujjar’ to show the cultural aspect of Gujjar community of the region. On meeting with the Vice Chancellor, he first appreciated the students for holding such a cultural programme and even agreed to be the chief guest in the programme following which the Gujjar community students started preparation for the programme, but suddenly the university administration on the instance of Vice Chancellor denied us the permission to hold the cultural event for the best known to them, she added.
Rishikesh Rana of National Secular Forum (NSF) alleged that attitude of the Vice Chancellor was dictatorial and against the interest of students community.  “The present VC is not only anti student but has also given some highly objectionable statements, such as questioning  the justification of  killing Burhan Wani and thus supporting the propaganda of separatists and anti nationals,” he added.
