Struggle to list Gojri in 8th Schedule enters in decisive phase: TRCF

JAMMU, Apr 16: Maintaining that the ongoing movement to get the tribal language –Gojri included in the eighth schedule of India Constitution enters in the decisive phase, the speakers of a programme organized by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) today appealed the Gujjar community residing in 12 States of India for a joint and final struggle for national recognition of their mother tongue.
The programme was presided over by noted tribal researcher Dr Javaid Rahi while prominent writers, poets and intellectuals of Gojri participated in the programme. The event was held to discuss the issues related to Gojri Language and its inclusion in the eighth scheduled of Indian Constitution.
Dr Javaid Rahi in his presidential address said Gojri being oldest and significant languages of India deserves recognition at National level since long. He said Gujjars-the main speakers of Gojri- mainly lives mainly in 12 States of North-Western India, listed as ST in J&K and Himachal Pradesh and OBC in 10 other States, are fighting vigorously for inclusion of their mother tongue in 8th Schedule of India.
The meeting adopted six resolution on the occasion, which includes constitution of committee to pursue the matter related to inclusion of Gojri in the eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution, opening of Gojri Research Centre in Jammu University, Gojri Department in Kashmir University, provide share on Doordrashan and Radio proportionate to the population of Gujjars, introduction of Gojri up to 12th standard through State Board of School Education, recognition of Gojri by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
A committee of senior writers, poets and intellectual was also constituted, which will work jointly to to address the issues with regard to development of Gojri language and culture.
Those who spoke include Abdul Rehaman Bhadhana, Kareem Ali Dildar, Ghulam Rubani, Aaijaz Ahsen, Rukam Din Bhomla, Aslam Bhalot, Khadam Khaki and others.
