State Visually Challenged climbers bring laurels

JAMMU, Apr 27: Visually Challenged climbers of J&K who brought laurels to the state by winning 5 medals including 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze in the 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Championship for Visually Challenged persons were felicitated by Mountaineering Association of J&K in a small function held at Louise Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls, here today.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria, General Secretary and Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Principal RD Dubey and Nevedita Shukla and Anju Sharma of Louis Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls and Khalida Begum, Superintendent of Residential School for Blind.
It is worth mentioning here that 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Championship for Visually Challenged was almost completely dominated by J&K climbers who made a clean sweep in the Girls category and the boys lost just a silver medal to a climber from Haryana.
In the Girls category Bhumika Chib, Riya Devi and Chandrika Jyoti bagged the first three positions and cash prizes of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs.1000 respectively, while in the Boys category Mohd Azim Khan and Waseem Akram clinched the Gold and a bronze medals and cash prizes of Rs. 3000 and Rs.1000 respectively.
The championship was organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi in the IMF premises.
