State Open Fencing C’ship gets underway

JAMMU, Mar 22: 16th  J&K State Open Fencing Championship 2018 for Boys and Girls organized by J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council was declared open at Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
The Championship was inaugurated in the presence of President J&K State Amateur Fencing Association, MJ Sharma; UC Dingra, Acting President of the Association; Mohinder Sharma, Joint Secretary; Satish Sharma, Vice-President; Sports Officer Ravi Singh; Manager Sports Complex Satish Gupta; Ajay Khartol, Rachna Jamwal, Shottu Lal and Harpreet Kour.
About 250 fencers drawn from the districts of Jammu, Srinagar, Reasi, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur are taking part in the Championship. Some international fencers like Riya Bakshi, Rudra Partap Singh, Rajan Prashar and Shrya Gupta are also participating in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, MJ Sharma said that this state level tournament is being conducted regularly from last 23 years and the various players of national and international level like Rashid Ahmed, Ujjwal Gupta, Anthony Matto, Ajay Khartol and Ajay Kumar have also started their fencing careers from this tournament.
