State Karatekas Poonam, Azmat win medals in South Africa

JAMMU, Dec 5: Jammu and Kashmir State’s women Karatekas made a new record by winning two bronze medals in 9th Commonwealth Karate Championship held at Durban in South Africa from November 29 to December 2.
This is for the first time in the history of Karate in Jammu and Kashmir that the women players have brought laurels to the State at the International scene.
Poonam Salathia has won bronze medal in Senior women team kumite and Azmat Bibi has bagged bronze in under-21 years individual kumite-55 kg weight category.
The team reached back to Jammu on December 5.
The other participants from J&K were Devesh  Mahajan, Katyayni, Rajat Singh, Abhijeet Singh and Sahil Singh.
Former Minister Sunil Sharma, President (AKAJK) State Karate Association, Rahil Gupta and Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Vice President along with other EC members congratulated the winners and their coach for great success.
J&K’s Ambedkar Gupta was Indian National Team Coach and India remained runners-up by winning 2nd highest gold medals in the Championship.
