BHADERWAH, Nov 29: Star Warriors outplayed Bhaderwah Campus XI by a huge margin of 110 runs and lifted the title trophy of the Rural Cricket Tournament, organised by Bhaderwah Campus in collaboration with Star Club Athkhar here today.
The aim to organise this tournament was to explore the unexplored talent of the youths living in rural areas besides promotion of sports activities in and around Bhaderwah Campus.
First of its kind, only the teams of the rural areas of Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas were allowed to participate in this tournament. More than 32 teams participated.
In the final match, Star Warriors outplayed Bhaderwah Campus XI by a huge margin of 110 runs at the cricket ground of Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu.
Star Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first. In the stipulated 20 overs, Star Warriors scored 172 runs for the loss of all the wickets. Ashiq scored highest 51 runs, while Tousheed chipped in 41 runs. Mohammad Amin and Mohammad Alyas took three wickets each while Hashim Din scalped two wickets.
In reply, Bhaderwah Campus XI failed to chase the target and bundled out at paltry 63 runs only.
Rector Bhade-rwah Campus Prof Anil Kumar Raina who was the chief guest on the occasion congratulated both the teams for showing sportsman spirit in the final of this big cricket event at Bhaderwah Campus.
The final match was witnessed by large number of students and faculty members of the campus and the youth from the surrounding villages.
Later, Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof Anil Kumar Raina distributed prizes among the winning and runner up teams.
