SRINAGAR, Feb 19: The functioning at Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been severely hampered due to the dearth of clerical staff.
Sources told Excelsior that against the six sanctioned posts by the Education Department in year 2012, only one is in place. “The post of Head Assistant is in position rest are lying vacant,” they said. The six posts which were notified by the education department include Senior Assistants (2), Junior Assistants (2), Accounts Assistant (1), and Head Assistant (1).
Locals in Uri said that with non-availability of staff in the office was taking heavy toll on the documental works. “Now, it takes months to get our documental work done,” they said. Zonal Education Officer Uri, Abdul Rasheed said he was single handedly running the entire office.
“We are only two employees running the entire office which is a difficult task. I have many times informed the higher ups regarding the problem but nothing was done to mitigate the problem,” he said.
Last year, Deputy Chief Education Officer Baramulla, Manzoor Ahmad Wani had said that department has to recruit at least 15 Junior Assistants who will be posted at different places but nothing has happened so far.
When contacted Chief Education Officer Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad, he said that they are recruiting the staff at the places wherever it is necessary. “It is not an issue. I will look into the matter,” he said.
