In a statement issued here, today president of SSH Rajesh Kesri said that the tunnel was to be thrown open by mid December but its opening has been delayed causing a lot of inconvenience to the people.
Kesri said 9.2 km long tunnel which will connect the Chenani area of Udhampur district with the Nashri area in Ramban district and will reduce the length of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway by around 31 kms should be now opened for vehicular traffic.
He said Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is a life line for Kashmir and Ladakh and several districts of Jammu region on which over 15,000 vehicles ply daily. Besides convoys of security forces also run on this Highway and at the time of rain or snow traffic gets disturbed. Hence the tunnel be opened for vehicular traffic immediately.
