Jammu, Mar 2: In a first for the Superspeciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu, a vesicovaginal fistula (abnormal connection between urinary bladder and vagina) was done in a minimally invasive way (Laproscopically) on a 32 years old lady.
Patient was suffering for almost 9 months when she came to super speciality hospital Jammu with persistent leakage of urine.
This surgery (VVF repair) was being performed by the conventional way i.e open technique which takes long recovery times and is associated with more pain and a scar. But for the first time it was done successfully by the key hole (Laparoscopic) manner, thus, reducing the recovery time of the patient.
The surgery was performed successfully by Dr Rahul Gupta (Assistant Professor,  Department of Urology) at SSH Jammu with his team including Dr Ajay Anand (Assistant Prof), Dr Robindra, Dr.Saurav Katoch and senior technician Ashwani Gupta.
The anesthesia team was led by Dr B Kapoor (Prof and HoD Anesthesia Department of Urology) along with Dr Amit Manhas (Consultant Urology). Support for the surgery was provided by Principal GMC Dr.Zahid Geelani and  Dr Manoj Chalotra (MS, SSH ,Jammu).
This helped the poor patient to have the best minimally invasive treatment at the Government hospital at no cost thus bringing the latest technique to the poor in Government sector”, sources said.
