JAMMU, Jan 10: While the entire truck fleet of the J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) went off the road on the second consecutive day today, the Corporation workers held strong protest rallies in Jammu, Srinagar and Leh today in support of their demands.
The SRTC workers are opposing the decision of the Govt to engage private trucks in the CAPD Department for supply/ distribution of ration. They claimed that the decision has been taken on behest of the CAPD Minister who tried to give benefit to his favourites and misguided the Cabinet by projecting the wrong picture.
The protest was held under the banner of J&K State Road Transport Corporation Workers Union under the leadership of Wajahat Hussain, chairman and Paramjeet Singh State president of the Union. The workers assembled at Bikram Chowk SRTC complex and from there they took out protest rally towards Tawi Bridge, Dogra Chwok and Press Club after holding protest demonstration there for about two hours, they moved to the SRTC complex. .
The agitating workers were carrying banners and placards in hands, depicting their demands and also raised slogans against CAPD Minister Ch Zulfkar. Several Union leaders addressed the gathering and said that they will intensify the strike if the Govt did not change its decision. They said after long efforts the SRTC’s revenue shown improvement by engaging own vehicles in Govt Departments but with this anti-SRTC decision, the Corporation will go into huge losses.
In Srinagar Union vice chairman Abdul Rashid Sheikh was leading workers’ protest rally from SRTC Complex MA Road towards Press Colony. They also held strong protest and raised slogans against Govt and CAPD Minister. In Leh city, also similar protest rally was organised by the Corporation workers.
The Union is demanding immediate revocation of order No. 200-FCS&CA of 2016 dated 14-12-2017, strict implementation of SRO-157, enhancement of annual budgetary support to SRTC, stop privatisation of transportation of food grains, provide 300 new trucks and 200 new buses and release pending amount of Rs 50 crore to SRTC lying with CAPD.
