JAMMU, Jan 9: While the entire truck fleet of the J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) went off the road for two days today, the Corporation workers held strong protest demonstration in Jammu and Srinagar cities in support of their demands.
They are opposing the decision of  the Govt to engage private trucks in the CAPD Department for supply/ distribution of ration.  They claimed that the decision has been taken on behest of the CAPD minister who tried to give benefit  to his  favourites and misguided the CM and also his own Cabinet colleagues.
The protest was held under the banner of J&K State Road Transport Corporation Workers Union under the leadership of Wajahat Hussain, chairman, vice chairman Ashok Mehra  and Paramjeet Singh -state president. The workers assembled at Bikram Chowk  SRTC complex and from there they took out protest    march towards Press Club.
They were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands and also raised slogans against CAPD Minister Ch Zulfkar. Several Union leaders addressed the gathering and said that they will intensify the strike if the Govt did not change its decision. They said after long efforts the SRTC’s revenue was improved by engaging own vehicles in Govt Departments but with this anti-SRTC decision, the Corporation will go into huge losses.
In Srinagar  Union vice chairman Abdul Rashid Sheikh was leading workers’ protest from SRTC Complex MA Road towards Press Colony and then to Divisional Commissioner’s office.
They are demanding immediate revocation of order No. 200-FCS&CA of 2016 dated 14-12-2017, strict implementation of SRO-157, enhancement of annual budgetary support to SRTC,  stop privatisation of transportation of  food grains and release pending amount of Rs 50 crore to SRTC lying with CAPD.
