SRS demands scrapping of IWT

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 18: Shri Ram Sena (SRS) here today demanded scrapping of Indus Water Treaty (IWT) in the interests of the nation in general and J&K State in particular.
In a statement, SRS J&K president, Rajiv Mahajan said any favour to Pakistan from now onwards will be heartbreaking as our brave soldiers who are fighting decisive fight to root out terrorism from J&K.
Mahajan further said that any pact can be successful only in an atmosphere of goodwill, trust and friendship, which are missing at present as Pakistan continues bleeding India and hence continuing with IWT in present scenario is useless and uncalled for.
“Successive Governments in J&K have been pushing for scrapping of the World Bank-brokered 1960 IWT between India and Pakistan which has caused heavy losses to the J&K State and has hindered its development.
It is pertinent to mention here that the water-sharing agreement under IWT restricts J&K from fully exploiting its hydro-resources for irrigation and power generation.
