Srinagar records coldest night at -4.5

Srinagar, Dec 10: Srinagar today recorded the season’s coldest night so far as the minimum temperature dropped to minus 4.5 degree Celsius.
The temperatures across the region continued to fall across the Valley due to clear night sky for last few days.
At minus 4.5 degree Celsius, Srinagar city recorded this season’s coldest night so far. The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 3 degree Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 1 degree Celsius in Gulmarg.
Leh was the coldest town in the State today as the minimum temperature dropped to minus 11.9 degree Celsius. Kargil town recorded minus 8.2 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Jammu city was recorded 11.6 degree Celsius today while in Katra it was recorded at 10.7 degree Celsius.
Batote recorded 6.5 degree Celsius, Banihal 1.5 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 3.5 degree  Celsius as the lowest night temperatures.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 9.4 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time of the year is 10 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded 16. 4 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 14.1  degree Celsius, Kupwara 11. 4 degree Celsius, Kokernag 17.7 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 10 degree Celsius,  Leh 10.5 degree Celsius and Kargil 9.2 degree Celsius.
The day temperatures in Jammu city was recorded at 26.4 degree Celsius, while it was 25.1 degree Celsius in Katra town, 18.1 degree Celsius in Batote, 19.2 degree Celsius in Banihal and 19.2 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
A Meteorological Department official said that light snow in the higher reaches and rains in the plains likely during the next 24 hours can bring in some respite from the heavy fog that clouds the Valley in the mornings and evenings these days.
Water tapes at many places in Srinagar city have frozen due to sub-zero night temperatures.
