SPS Hospital completes 120 kidney transplants

JAMMU, Aug 18: SPS Hospital Ludhiana has claimed successful completion of 120 kidney transplants within two years and that too with satisfying results and success rate of over 95 per cent.
In a news conference here today Dr Vikas of SPS Hospital said that kidney transplant has increased the patient survival.
He informed that kidney transplant programme at SPS Hospital accepts patients from different states of the country as well as from abroad.
Dr Rahul said that diseases related to kidney could be life threatening and requires proper diagnosis at good hospital.
He further said that in India about 60-80 per cent of kidney failure is due to unrecognised diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension and drug abuse.
Dr Ajay informed that every year over one lakh new patients suffer kidney failure in our country and about 5 to 6 lakh patients remain on dialysis waiting for transplant.
“However, transplant rarely takes place due to shortage of donors,” he maintained.
