pBorn on September 8, 1986 in Hyderabad, Parupalli Kashyap is an Indian ace Badminton player, who trains at Gopichand Badminton Academy. Kashyap joined the Padukone Academy in 2004 and then started playing under Pullela Gopichand Academy.
In 2005, he won the boys singles title at National Level. In 2006, he defeated high seeded player in Hong Kong, giving hint of his talent. At the 33rd National Games, Kashyap defeated the National Champion Chetan Anand to win the gold medal. He was runners-up in Thailand Open, Spanish Open in 2009. He won a bronze medal in 2010 Commonwealth Games as he lost in the semifinals. Kashyap reached the semifinal stage of 2012 Bjaram Indonesia Cup where he defeated World No-3 Chen Long in quarterfinals. Kashyap created history by reaching the quarterfinals of the men’s singles at 2012 London Olympics, becoming the only Indian male to do so. He won the Syed Modi International Grand Prix. In January 2013, he achieved the ranking of 9, entering the top 10 for the first time. He achieved his highest ranking of 6 in Swiss Open. He currently ranks 14th in the World. Kashyap won the men’s singles Badminton Gold medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games after 32 years for India as he defeated Derek Wong of Singapore in the finals. He was also awarded with prestigious Arjuna Award in 2012. He is one of the greatest Indian Badminton player’s of all time.
