Born on February 13, 1989 in Bijbehara, Jammu and Kashmir, Parvez Ghulam Rasool Zargar is an Indian cricketer who plays domestic cricket as an allrounder for Jammu & Kashmir. He is a right hand batsman and off-break bowler.
Getting his first call-up for the national team for India’s Zimbabwe tour of 2013, Rasool became the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to get selected for the national side.
After a good Ranji season in 2012/13, he was included in the India A squad to play the warm-up one-day match against England on 6 January 2013. Thus, he became the first cricketer from the Kashmir Valley to be picked for India ‘A’.
Rasool is from Bijbehara in the Anantnag district of Kashmir. There, his coach was Abdul Qayyum who has played a good level of cricket and he learnt the game from him before he played junior cricket for Jammu and Kashmir. His father and brother have played cricket. His brother Asif has played Ranji trophy too.
In February 2013, Rasool wreaked havoc in his three spells as he took 7 wickets which helped Board President’s XI bowl out the visiting Australian side for a modest 241. His seven scalps included top-order players like regular Test opener Ed Cowan, stand-in captain and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and all-rounder Steve Smith.
Parvez Rasool on 14 February 2013 became first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to bag an IPL contract, signing up with Pune Warriors for the 2013 season.
Parvez Rasool made his IPL debut in Pune Warriors v Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2013 at Pune, 9 May 2013. He got the wicket of Jacques Kallis.He had a good start to his IPL career managing one wicket with figures of 1/23 off 4 overs. He played next IPL match against Mumbai Indians on 12 May 2013.
