Sports Council’s mega Winter Shield Cricket Cup from next week

JAMMU, Mar 13: State Cricket Academy (SCA) under the auspices of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council is going to organise a mega cricket tournament namely Winter Shield Cricket Cup from the next week at Parade ground, here.
A total of 32 teams will be participating in the tournament, with 25 prominent Cricket Clubs from district Jammu and 7 clubs (one each) from the districts of Doda, Poonch, Reasi, Rajouri, Udhampur, Kathua and Samba.
The tournament is being held under the direction and patronage of Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar and under the chairmanship of Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Naseem Choudhary.
To review the arrangements for the tournament and finalize the venue, a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council, Haji Abdul Qayoom in his office chambers here.
The meeting among others was attended by Divisional Sports Officer Ravi Singh; Director State Cricket Academy, Mubashir Hassan; Manager Ashok Singh and the Coordinators of the event Rajesh Dhar and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy Player.
According to the organisers, the matches will be played in whites with red leather ball up to the quarterfinal stage and with white leather ball in colour uniforms from the quarterfinal stage. However, the inaugural match between Media XI and Secretariat XI will be played with red balls in colour uniform.
Apart from the cash prizes, attractive awards will be presented to the winners and runners-up teams on the concluding day, besides the individual prizes among the meritorious players.
The organisers will also provide balanced refreshment during the tournament.
This T20 tournament will be played on knockout basis and the matches will be officiated by a panel of experts nominated by the organisers.
The participating teams include National Cricket Club, Lions Cricket Club, Shinning Star Doda, Diamond Cricket Club, Jammu Cricket Club, Raja Warriors, Champions Club, KC Academy, Laxmi Cricket Club, Samar Cricket Club, Red Rose Arnia, Rajouri Stars, Road Safety XI, Singh Akhnoor, Poonch XI, Saffron Club, KC Sports Club, Reasi XI, Christian Sports Club, MCC, Simula Cricket Club, Udhampur XI, Lucky Cricket Club, Media XI, Vishal Cricket Club, Eleven Stars, Horizon Samba, Wridhi Royals, Kishen Chand Cricket Club, Jammu University, Stadium XI Kathua and Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Club.
The draws of the tournament will be released by or before March 15, 2019.
