Speedball U-19 girls competitions get underway

JAMMU, Aug 9: Inter-School District Level Tournament for Girls Under-19 years in Speedball and other three sports disciplines of  Thai Boxing, Belt Wrestling and Thang-sa-Do for  the  year 2018-19 of   District Jammu got underway at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
In all, 80 girls drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions.
The competitions are being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director.
Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the Organising Secretary of the tournament.
The main objective of the competitions is to select the teams of Jammu District for the higher level competitions.
In  Speedball U-19 Girls single, Janvi Sharma of  SD Tara Puri Jammu bagged 1st position, Komal Devi of Lord Shiva Day Boarding School clinched 2nd spot and the 3rd position went to Janvi Gupta of May Fair HSS Jammu, while in doubles, 1st  position was bagged by Mansi Slathia and Arya Gupta of Govt HSS Shastri Nagar and the 2nd position went to Pooja and Anamika of May Fair HSS Jammu.
In Solo, 1st position went to Janvi Gupta of  May Fair HSS Jammu, the 2nd position was bagged by    Komal Devi of Lord Shiva Day Boarding School and the 3rd position was claimed    by Arya Gupta of Govt HSS, Shastri Nagar, while in Relay Team, Lord Shiva Day Boarding School Jammu emerged winner. The team was represented by Komal Devi, Sunidhi Choudhary, Lakshmi Devi and Janvi Manhas.
May Fair HSS Jammu remained runners-up. The players included Janvi Gupta, Aemi Sharma, Anamika Dogra and Pooja.
In Thai Boxing Girls U-19 years below 46 Kg, Rushika Singh of Bharti Public School claimed gold, while gold medalists in below 48, 50, 60 and 65 years included Bhawana Salgotra of Vishwa Bharti School Udhaywala, Hersheela Ganjoo of Vishwa Bharti School Udhaywala, Jaspreet Kour of Vishwa Bharti School Udhaywala and Ananya Duggal of DPS Jammu.
The matches were officiated by a panel of experts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
