Special team raids over dozen private schools in Kathua

KATHUA, Apr 15: Following the larger complaints from parents about the sale of books and stationery material by the private schools on higher price and charging of higher fees on the name of admission fee, annual charges etc , a special team constituted by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Ramesh Kumar today raided over a dozen private schools.
The team comprised of members of Education Department, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Metrology Department raided more than a dozen of private school in Kathua areas to check the sale of study and stationery material by the private school. They also enquired about the fees charged on the name of re -admission fee and annual charges.
Numbers of the school were found selling the books and stationery material inside the school premises without any rate slip on the books and stationery. The DPO Education Department Kathua Aruna Sharma who was heading the surprise checking team said number of private school were found in illegal practice of sale of books and the store rooms of two school were sealed by the visiting team.
She said that it surprising to know that the fee structure raised by private schools is so higher than the Government fee structures. The books and stationery material rates are also charged as per the choice of management. The schools have turned to be grocery shops. She said notices have also been served to some private schools and they were asked to stop the illegal practice immediately.
The Chief Education Officer Kathua Balbir Singh said that the raid on private schools would continue and action will be taken against the schools indulging in such practice. He said a warning in this connection has already been issued and school managements were asked not to sell the books and stationery material and also follow the fee structure of Government rates . He said the private school were also asked to prescribe only J&K State Board recognize books .
He has appealed the people and parents to submit their complaint in this connection to CEO Office. Stern action would be taken against the private school not following the Government rules and education policy.
