JAMMU, Jan 21: Regional Passport Office (RPO) today organized the first Passport Mela of the year here at its Gandhi Nagar premises.
A total of 240 passport cases were processed during the day. Vimarsh Aryan, Regional Passport Officer, inaugurated the event.
Applicants from the entire Jammu region showed great exuberance to participate in the Mela and availed the special opportunity created by the Regional Passport Office. This event was aimed at providing an ‘out of turn opportunity’ to applicants of various categories who needed to file their applications urgently.
A special provision of ‘walk-in’ appointments was also given to senior citizens, minors, Haj applicants and to the applicants from the hilly districts of Jammu region who had missed their previous appointments due to highway closure following inclement weather during the week.
The Regional Passport Office Jammu will schedule similar Melas in future as well to take care of the urgent passport cases. It is also noteworthy that such events have shown a remarkable annual growth of 10 % in the total number of passports having been issued by the RPO Jammu in the calendar year (2016). A total of 42,631 passports were issued during the year 2016.
