Special economic package to Batwal community demanded

JAMMU, Aug 6:  The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association held its meeting and discussed the socio-economic condition of Batwal community people living in acute poverty. Association president Sat Paul Lakhotra urged the Government of India for sanctioning of a ‘Special Economic Package’ to them based on the survey report of their ethnographic study undertaking by the Central Planning Commission in 1994.
Lakhotra further said that increase in prices of essential commodities, including medicine, rice, flour, sugar, tea and oil have adversely affected the poor. He urged the Government to control and bring down the prices of the same.
Earlier, the Association members prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls of Major Kamlesh Pandey and Sepoy Tanjin Chhultim of 62 RR,  who attained martyrdom  in firing by militants at Shopian.
Among others,  who attended the meeting,  included Capt  Om Parkash Tugga, Capt  Kamal Chand Motan, Sub  Maj  Romesh Sargora, Sub  Maj  Gunni Ram Kaith, Sub  Maj Thoru Ram Mandi, Sub  Narayan Dass Bassa, Hav  Des Raj Kaith, Hav  Rattan Lal Motan, Naib Sarpanch Ram Lal Lakhotra, Numberdar Sardari Lal Kaith, Master Naresh Kumar, Mela Ram Tugga and Kamal Singh Kaith
