NEW DELHI, Sept 29: Speaker J&K, Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi  and discussed various political and development activities of the State.
This was the first meeting of the Kavinder Gupta with the Prime Minister since he became the Speaker of J&K.
During the meeting several issues related to J&K were taken up, particularly the roadblocks to development activities and restoration of peace in the State.
The Speaker said that the recent terrorist attack on Army camp in Uri and the present status of life in the Valley also figured in the meeting and the measures to prevent such acts in the future were discussed.
The Prime Minister is very concerned in bringing back normalcy in the State so the development activities don’t take a back seat and the main issue of “Agenda of Alliance” that is equitable development of all the three regions of J&K can be fulfilled, Gupta said.
The Speaker requested the Prime Minister to favourably consider the inclusion of both the capital cities of J&K in the list of smart cities under the mission launched by the Union Ministry for Urban Development.
The Speaker sought the intervention of the Prime Minister to review the lists of beneficiaries for providing free LPG connections to the poor under “Ujwala Yojana” launched by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for reaching out to the masses and helping all the deserving poor women as the list contains the names according to the 2011 census only.
He also requested the Prime Minister for allocating additional quota of food grains for the State so that everyone living in the J&K irrespective of his/her place of birth can be accommodated suitably.
Requesting to expedite the projects related to the widening of Jammu-Poonch road, development of River Tawi, amusement parks for Jammu, Mono/Metro rail for Jammu & Srinagar, development of other tourist circuits in the Jammu region, Gupta urged the PM to appoint full time team comprising of IAS officers, Engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SBE) who can assist the State Government and avoid any bureaucratic hurdle for allocation, implementation and timely completion of all such projects.
