Sparsh continues dream run

Mumbai’s Sparsh Pherwani continued his dream run in the Manisha National Billiards and Snooker Championship with a thrilling 3-2 win over Haryana’s Digvijay Kadian here today.
At PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Sparsh stunned second seed Aditya Bhalla of Delhi to enter quarterfinals.
Against Digvijay, the Mumbai lad started well by pocketing first two frames 67-37 and 52-39. But, with a 55-point break in the third frame, Digvijay bounced back in the game as the frame score read 72-29 in his favour. Digvijay then made 51 and 40-point breaks in the fourth frame, to equalise scores with a 91-29 win.
In the decider frame, both cueist preferred safety. Sparsh was trailing by 34 points on the color ball, and then he cleared the table from green to black, snatching a narrow 49-48 win. “This is my best performance in the nationals. Being in the top-4 of juniors from qualifiers is quite exciting. Earlier, I wasn’t confident about double balls but during the tournament I learnt that it’s not that difficult. And in this crucial match, I won with a double. That’s something I am happy about,” said Sparsh after the match. (PTI)
