SOS International gears up for decisive battle

JAMMU, Jan 13:Gearing up for a final and decisive battle to get the refugee community its due rights, SOS International-an Organization for PoK refugees, convened a meeting of the displaced community members at Bhimber Colony, Resham Ghar here today.
The meeting was chaired by SOS International chairman Rajiv Chuni and attended by a number of the refugee families.
The meet discussed various issues and grievances of the refugees who have been deprived of their genuine rights by the successive Governments for the last 65 years.
Exhorting the displaced community to be ready for a final and decisive struggle to get their rights, Rajiv Chuni threatened direct action if the government does not accord its approval on special package and advisory board for the refugees.
He demanded that the special package for refugees must be cleared by the State cabinet before the announcement of code of conduct ahead of forthcoming elections.
He informed that the package envisages Rs 25 lakh to each refugee family, two percent reservation to their wards in professional and technical courses and formation of an apex committee, headed by the chief Minister as ex-officio chairman for regular review of the issues of the displaced community. Mr Chuni also appealed the State Government to constitute Refugee Welfare Advisory Board, as promised by the coalition of National Conference and Congress.
Those who spoke included Krishan Kumar Lakha, Sanjeev Kumar Sabharwal, Anmol Rattan Sethi, Som Raj, Tilak Raj, Pradeep Tandan, Raghunandan Singh Bali, Rama Kant Bhasin, Satish Sabharwal, Harish Chander and H S Anand.
