Soldier’s body recovered after 6 months

Srinagar, June 14: Army recovered the body of a soldier who was buried in a landslide in December last year in Nowgam sector of Kupwara.
A Defence Ministry spokesman, “Army today paid befitting tribute to Late Sep Shammi Singh who had gone missing on December 11, 2017 fighting nature’s fury in Kashmir’s frontier Naugam Sector in Kupwara district last year. The Search and Rescue operations recommenced after the snow melted and ended on June 13. In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Maj Gen S K Sharma, Chief of Staff Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation”.
Singh was part of an Operational Team which was patrolling the forward areas in the formidable heights along the Line of Control and got swept away due to a landslide during patrolling.
Singh, 26, had joined the Army in 2012. He belonged to village Makroli of Indora tehsil in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and is survived by his parents.
His body was flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours.
