SRINAGAR, Aug 25: A soldier was killed and another injured in separate landmine explosions near the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today and police busted three militant hideouts in South Kashmir and arrested three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Army’s 5/9 GR was on a routine patrol duty in Gogaldar area when the blasts took place. A soldier identified as Abishekh Chhetri sustained multiple splinter injuries and was taken to 168 military hospital, Drugmulla for treatment. Click here to watch video
Another landmine blast took place near Balbir Post this morning along LoC in Keran in which Rifleman Nihal Gurang of 5/9 GR was critically injured and was taken to nearby medical facility of Army where from he was airlifted to 92-base hospital at Badamibagh Cantonment in Srinagar. However, he succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
And a Special Police Officer (SPO) went missing along with an AK-47 rifle from Police Station Shopian in South Kashmir today.
The SPO has been missing and has taken AK-47 rifle of another cop from the Police Station this morning. The SPO has been identified as Showkat Ahmad of Hermain village of Shopian. Police have sounded an alert across South Kashmir and launched a hunt to nab the SPO.
“A case under relevant Sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up,” Police said.
Police today said that they busted three hideouts of militants and recovered incriminating material along with arms and ammunition in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“Pulwama Police along with security forces busted a hideout from a house in Rajpora Litter and arrested a key OGW (Over Ground Worker) from the house. Incriminating material along with IED material was recovered from the hideout,” said a police spokesman.
Two hideouts were busted in Khallen and Tahab villages of Pulwama. “From these hideouts, an AK magazine, one Insas magazine and a UBGL were recovered. Three accused persons who were working for HM group were arrested,” police said.
