Soft drink distributor penalized

Srinagar, Feb 6: Legal Metrology Department today said it penalized a soft-drink distributor for supplying underweight soft drink tins in Jammu.
In a statement issued here, the Department said it received complaint against a distributor by a respectable citizen for supplying him underweight 300ml Coca-cola tins on the occasion of marriage ceremony of his daughter.
“The tins were found about 100ml short, though these were properly sealed. The notice was served to the factory Manager, Hindustan Coca-Cola, Jammu for ascertaining the reasons of short-filling of Coca-Cola tins,” he said.
An expert team from the company visited the office and during the investigation it was found that the distributor has not maintained the storage conditions for stocking the product and as a result the aerated cold drinks had lost the gas content, the Department said.
He said the distributor was held responsible for supplying defective 300ml cold drinks to the consumer and a penal sum of Rs 40,000 was slapped on him, the Department statement added.
