Snowfall in higher reaches, rains in plains

Srinagar, Feb 20: Upper reaches of Kashmir Valley received overnight fresh snowfall while plains received moderate rains even as weatherman has predicted mainly dry weather from next week.
A Meteorological Depa-rtment official said that higher reaches of Gulmarg, Kupwara, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Shopian received fresh snow last night. The reaches where from snowfall was recorded include Peer Ki Gali, Sadhna Top, Amarnath Cave, Zojila Top and Afarwat. The plains of the Valley received moderate rainfall that began yesterday evening and concluded today morning.
Pahalgam was the coldest place in Valley today followed by Kokernag. The maximum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of the State, was recorded 12.4 degree Celsius and night temperature settled at 2.8 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, recorded 10.3 degree Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded 1.2 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Kokernag in south Kashmir was 8.7 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature was -1 degree Celsius, the coldest in Valley.
Gulmarg recorded 10 degree Celsius day temperature, which is 9 notches above normal, while the mercury in night settled at -2.2 degree Celsius. The day temperature in Leh was 3.8 degree Celsius and in Kargil it was 7 degree Celsius.
