JAMMU, Dec 12: Maintai-ning that patients’ well-being is at the forefront of what they do at SMVD Narayana Supersp-eciality Hospital, an official spokesperson of the hospital has sought to clarify on the incident of alleged vandalism by some miscreants on December 1.
“The incident was in correlation to the demise of a person who was admitted on 27th November 2017 with a brain tumor. On 29th November 2017, the said patient required emergency surgery due to his fast deteriorating clinical condition. After providing detailed counselling and explaining the high risks involved, the patient’s family consented to go ahead with the surgery. The patient remained in critical condition post-surgery and on 1st December 2017, the family decided to obtain his discharge against medical advice and take him home,” the spokesperson said.
During the discharge process, the spokesperson claimed,   alleged miscreants entered the hospital premises and vandalized the place. “We would like to state that the alleged miscreants were in no way related to the patient and might have entered with ulterior motives,” said the spokesperson and added that  one of the alleged miscreants  was involved in a similar incident in the past at the same  hospital and had been counselled by the SHO, Katra.
“Videos capturing false accusations including, not releasing the body of the deceased while asking for settlement money and non-availability of doctors were made public to defame the hospital. While the truth was that the patient was under the care of highly competent doctors till the moment his family chose to take him home against medical advice and regrettably passed away in his house later that day,” clarified the spokesperson and hoped that the alleged miscreants, who have been apprehended by the Police, would be brought to justice.
Claiming that the incident traumatized the hospital staff and management took necessary steps to seek justice within the purview of the law, the spokesperson reiterated that as a leading healthcare provider, the SMVD Narayana Supersp-eciality Hospital shall continue to provide affordable and quality healthcare to patients.
