SMVD College of Nursing organizes awareness programmes on breast feeding

KAKRYAL, Aug 5: As part of the World Breast Feeding Week from 1st August to 7th August, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Kakryal, organized several functions with a view to enlarge awareness among mothers and caregivers about the importance of breast feeding. The students of 3rd semester of the college participated in these functions.
In this context, a debate competition was organized on the theme “Sustaining Breast Feeding Together”. Each team shared their views emphasizing on how breast feeding benefits the infants.  Artika and Masrat, 3rd semester students of the College of Nursing from Trikuta House, won the debate competition on Breast feeding vs Formula feeding.
Besides, the students under the guidance of their faculty, organized interactive awareness programmes on breast feeding for mothers and caregivers at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal. Mothers were educated on physiology of lactation, initiation of breast feeding, bonding between mother and baby and nutritional value of breast milk. Various queries of the mothers were clarified during the interaction session.
Dr Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College of Nursing, informed that these programmes were held under the guidance of   Pushpa Oraon, Associate Professor and Pooja Rani, Clinical Instructor of the college.
