SMGS authorities clarify on news item

JAMMU, Apr 18: The authorities of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital today clarified on news item titled ‘Woman delivers baby in corridor of SMGS Hospital’ published in April 17 edition of this paper.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Dara Singh, said that the matter highlighted in the news item was got investigated through Prof and HoD, Department of Gynae and Obstt, SMGS Hospital, Jammu, who has submitted a detailed report, which proves beyond doubt that the allegations leveled against doctors and other staff members of the hospital are baseless.
In its investigation report to the Medical Superintendent, the HoD said that the patient mentioned in the news item was a third gravid patient, who was identified as Wahida Kousar wife of Mohd Akram. She was referred from District Hospital Rajouri to SMGS Hospital, where she reported in the registration room on April 16 at 5.10 pm accompanied by an Asha worker (not in uniform).
As per the report, the lady was examined in the registration room and was advised to go inside labour room which is adjacent to the registration room. In the labour room, she was given blood tests and advised to lie down on the given bed but the patient was not seen inside the labour room.
The doctor on duty went outside the labour room at around 8 pm to take consent for another patient when she saw a crowd of ladies shouting. On reaching near, the doctor found that the patient was lying on the floor in the corridor and was surrounded by few ladies and baby had already been delivered, following which the necessary instruments were brought, baby was separated and then both mother and the baby were shifted to labour room and necessary treatment was given.
