Srinagar, Nov 9: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today sought suggestions from stakeholders including common people over Srinagar Smart City Project.
Addressing a press conference, the SMC Public Health Officer, Dr Shafqat Khan, said that they feel Smart City project is a peoples’ project and they need cooperation of stakeholders. “We need their views so that they can be useful in beautifying Srinagar and making it smart,” he added.
Dr Shafqat said they have to submit a draft proposal to Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Department and they have chalked out the deadlines in this regard by November 15 and for final draft it is December 15.  “We found it important to seek peoples’ viewpoint and the difficulties of people of Srinagar city vis-à-vis transport, housing or of that sector which they think that there is a need to beautify the city and make it smart.
“There is talk of pedestrian walkways and promoting cycling and we want that tomorrow when this draft is prepared no stakeholder should come before us and say my opinion has not been included in this,” he said.
The SMC Public Health Officer said they through the medium of media “we want to inform all stakeholders, common people of Srinagar city or of other towns and villages, the ones having concern that Srinagar city should become smart and good to present their view point in our- Smart City Srinagar Cell’.
“Our email is srinagarsmartcity@gmail.com. We have Facebook and Twitter accounts. We also have one designated landline number 2474499 and you can send your viewpoints on that as well,” he said, adding that if anyone further feels that his or her point is important to be discussed they can approach our Smart City Cell in Informatics Division of SMC and present suggestions.
He said that the agenda of Smart City is not political “but we want to make it peoples’ agenda so that the difficulties of people are projected in this whole project”.
“We have also held meetings with stakeholders. One was held with youth at SKICC and second was with senior citizens and media participants. We want no one should be missed in this and the deadlines which we want should also not be missed because this should not be said that Srinagar was not given any chance,” he informed.
The SMC Public Health Officer further appealed all the people to become part of this project and “give us advice and suggestions so that the basic project report is formulated, its draft is being readied and we will place that in public domain after November 15”.
“If you want to criticize, so criticize, want to give any suggestion, do suggest or want to add anything, you can do that. So, I appeal citizens of Srinagar and people of Kashmir who are related to Srinagar to give their views, suggestions and advice so that we can submit this project and make Srinagar a Smart City,” he added.
