SRINAGAR, Oct 30: Vigilance Organization today apprehended two officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for accepting a bribe of Rs 65,000 for allotment of shops at Al-Qadoos Market located at Exhibition Crossing Srinagar.
The two officials – Chowdray Mehrajudin Buja and Aamir Rashid- were trapped accepting the bribe red handed after a complaint was lodged by a trader, Abdul Rehman Reshi.
The complainant had alleged that Buja was harassing them and was misusing his official position by demanding bribe from some of the Shopkeepers for the allotment of their shops.
The two officials along with their team arrived at Al-Qadoos Market during the dead of the night and broke shutters of those shops whose owners had refused them to give bribe.
Reshi informed Vigilance and a team caught the two officials red handed while accepting the bribe.
They were booked and a case registered (an FIR vide number 39/2014 under Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Panel Code) against them.
