SMC goes digital

Srinagar, Mar 14: The citizens can now pay different kinds of fee online at Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) as it has now gone digital by introducing online mode of payment facilities here.
SMC Commissioner, Dr Shafqat Khan said that the citizens can now pay different kinds of fee including revenue and building fee online. “The SMC has now turned digital and we have introduced this facility for the citizens. In this regard, the Jammu and Kashmir Bank has also given us four machines for digital payment purpose,” he said.
The SMC Commissioner said that the next step in strengthening e-governance programme would be digitalization of 34 ward offices in Srinagar. He said that the sanitation fee would be collected from door-to-door by SMC officials through mobile digital machines.
Furthermore, Dr Shafqat said, the digitalization of SMC records has already been started. “The SMC website would be upgraded with effective complaint and grievance mechanism,” he said, adding that the complaints ranging from illegal constructions to garbage management shall be uploaded by the user by clicking the picture of the particular.
“It will be then added to Google maps for immediate location and action would be taken accordingly,” the SMC Commissioner said and sought the cooperation of people of Srinagar in making the initiatives successful. “This has been done for accountability, transparency and effective governance of the SMC,” Dr Shafqat added.
