Slathia visits shelling hit areas in Ramgarh sector, seeks compensation

SAMBA, Sept 22: Former minister and senior State Vice President National Conference Surjeet Singh Slathia  visited areas along the International Border in Ramgarh sector of Vijaypur constituency and expressed solidarity with the residents who were injured and whose properties were damaged due to unprovoked shelling from across the border.
“We share the agonies and miseries of the border dwellers who are braving the brunt of Pakistan shelling”, Slathia said while interacting with sufferers during his visit to Nanga, Sambu, Babral and Bakha Chak village along the International Border.
Slathia expressed anguish over delay in constructing shelter sheds and making appropriate lodging arrangements during the exigencies of shelling. He said the border dwellers are forced to run helter skelter for safety with the Government just looking to the other side, when they need shelter, medicare and other facilities the most.
He urged the administration to carry out survey of the damages caused due to shelling and provide interim relief in terms of cash assistance and free rations to the sufferers. He said the affected people should be compensated for the losses after inventory of the damages is prepared.
Slathia reiterated his demand of safe shelters for the people dwelling in vulnerable areas, saying the shelling has become a constant feature. He castigated the PDP-BJP Coalition Government for not keeping the promises of allotting plots in safer areas where from the farmers can undertake farming and pursue other avocations which come to standstill in the wake of shelling.
The former minister also sought formulation of a contingency plan to meet the challenges in border areas.
