VIJAYPUR, Oct 16: Wrestler Veniya defeated Gopi of Ludhiana in the Annual Peer Bbaba Peer Shatala Wrestling Competition played at Bari Brahmana in Vijaypur Assembly Constituency today evening.
Giving away the winners and runners up trophies to the wrestlers, National Conference State Secretary and former Minister Surjeet Singh Slathia said at the concluding function that holding such competitions will go a long way in motivating youth to take up traditional sport and make a mark at various levels.
Mr Slathia acknowledged the popularity of Dangal in an era of cricket, soccer and hockey and said that wrestling has made a mega comeback at the national and international levels.
He urged the youth to come forward and show their talent on a bigger canvass.
The former Minister exuded confidence that various tourneys, especially in the segment of wrestling, will provide an opportunity to the budding wrestlers to benefit from veterans and emulate various techniques, which will sharpen their talent.
The competition was watched by a large number of people, which included prominent citizens including National Conference Block President Bhagwan Singh, Ex Chairman Municipal Corporation Bari Brahmana Raman Gupta Vice President NC Vijay Singh Ex Sarpanches Ghulam Nabi, Sadiq Hussain and President NC Labour Union Naar Singh.
Slathia congratulated the Organising Committee comprising of Mohd Rashid, Vijay Singh, Mohd Yousaf, Ghulam Mustafa, Ex Sarpanch Ghulam Nabi, Ashok Singh and Lal Mohammed for organizing the Dangal.
