JAMMU, Feb 12: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology – Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) has demanded immediate sanction of much required Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Horticulture and Faculty of Dairy Technology as the proposal has been made hostage to the process of seeking repeated queries for the last 12 years by the State Government.
President SKUAST-TAJ, Dr Vikas Sharma informed that the formal proposal is still awaiting nod of the Agriculture Production and Planning Department since 2005.  “The persons at the helm of affairs in the Government administration are making mockery of this only farm and professional University of the Jammu Division as the request of SKUAST Jammu has been hanging fire for twelve long years whereas  SKUAST Kashmir has added five more faculties to its strength viz., Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Dairy Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Faculty of Forestry in recent years,” he said while chairing a meeting of SKUAST-TAJ, here today,  and termed this injustice as discrimination with Jammu..
Dr Vivek .M Arya, general secretary of the Association, informed that the issue was deliberated for the first time in the 4th Academic Council of SKUAST-J in May 2005 and after the approval of Board of Management (BOM) same year, it was formally submitted to APD, and further all questions raised over the years have been replied without delay but with submission of one set of answers another set of questions is raised. “This piecemeal handling of the request of the SKUAST Jammu has done much harm to the student community of Jammu region. Moreover, SKUAST-TAJ submitted a written memorandum  regarding the matter to Chancellor,  N.N. Vohra in April, 2015 and Deputy Chief Minister, but there is zero progress on the matter as the state Govt  has not sanctioned these faculties till date,” he added.
It may be recalled that SKUAST was established in Srinagar in the year 1982 through an Act passed by the State Legislature. Jammu had to wait and struggle for seventeen long years when in 1999, the SKUAST Kashmir was bifurcated and SKUAST Jammu came into existence.  That time, both the varsities had two faculties each; Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Veterinary Sciences.
