SKUAST-Jammu celebrates foundation day

JAMMU, Sept 22: An impressive function was organized by the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) to commemorate its foundation day at R S Pura campus today.
Professor Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University, was the chief guest on this occasion. In his address, he said that University has made unprecedented progress during the last one decade. He exhorted upon the faculty, students and the scholars to strive hard to make SKUAST-Jammu a leading educational institution. He further emphasized the need to strengthen the congenial atmosphere in the University to encourage developmental activities, academic excellence and innovations so that outcome of research can be transferred from laboratory to land for the benefit of the farming community of the province.
The Vice Chancellor exhorted the students, staff and faculty members to rededicate their sincere efforts in taking the University to newer heights at national and international level.
The students of the university presented a colourful cultural programme on this occasion in which all the statutory officers, heads of the departments, professors, scientists, students and non-teaching staff of the University were present.
Earlier, Dr D P Abrol, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, presented the historical perspective of the genesis of SKUAST of Jammu in the year 1999. He also highlighted the contribution of the SKUAST of Jammu in field of teaching, research and extension.
The SKUAST of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into SKUAST of Jammu and SKUAST of Kashmir in September, 1999 by an Act of the State Legislature. In its 18 years of history, SKUAST-Jammu has contributed by developing location specific scientific innovations to augment the farm productivity. He said that the University is making all efforts to reach the un-reached farmers so that the benefits of the latest technology can be transferred to the grass roots.
Dr M M S Zama, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, presented vote of thanks. The foundation day celebrations were organized by Dr Sandeep Sehgal, Deputy Director Students Welfare, Directorate of Education.
