Singhpora tunnel to boost economic condition of region: Tak

JAMMU, Feb 4: While claiming  that entire Chenab region was on the path of development under the Peoples Democratic Party led Government, Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak today lauded the efforts of Chief Minister  Mehbooba Mufti for getting approval for the construction of much awaited Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel, aimed at providing alternate all weather road connectivity between the two regions of Kashmir and Jammu.
In a statement, here today, the PDP MLC said that the announcement by the Union Minister for Surface Transport during a meeting with state Chief Minister  grating approval to the prestigious project has come as a delight for entire erstwhile Doda district in general and Kishtwar in particular. He said the CM  was informed about the approval to the construction of two tunnels – one at Mughal Road and another at Kishtwar-Anantnag road (Singhpora-Vailoo), which will provide shortest and all weather between erstwhile Doda district and Anantnag in the Kashmir region. The State and Union Government officials have been asked to prepare the Detailed Project Report of the two projects so that the work could be started this summer.
The Legislator said that Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel has been a long cherished dream of people of this mountainous belt with limited road connectivity, economic activities and health facilities. “The tunnel will boost the economic activities in the region,” he added.
Tak also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for announcing helicopter services to the snowbound areas of the region. “The government has already sanctioned an amount of Rs 5 crore for development of helipad at Kishtwar”, he said adding that the helicopter services will also boost tourism and economic activities in the region.
“It is for the first time that any Government has talked about providing rail connectivity to Chenab region”, he said adding, that Government in the Governor address has promised providing rail connectivity to Doda and Kishtwar.
