Singh Cricket Club wins Akhnoor Tehsil T20 Tourney

AKHNOOR, Aug 10: Outplaying Adarsh Cricket Club easily by 8 wickets in the summit clash, Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor lifted the title trophy in the Akhnoor Tehsil T20 Cricket Tournament, which concluded at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here today.
The Tournament, in which 8 teams of Akhnoor Tehsil participated, was organized by Singh Cricket Club, under the supervision of its chairman, Sham Singh Langeh.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sharma was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while joint secretary, Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Sudershan Mehta was the guest of honour. Both the dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, PHE Minister said that sports and games teach one to struggle and struggle is the ‘mantra’ to succeed in life, adding that the sporting events help youth not to derail from the mainstream.
Mr Sham further said that vast development in sports sector has taken place in Akhnoor town and adjoining areas, adding that apart from development of two multi-purpose sports stadiums, an indoor sports complex is under construction in Akhnoor.
Guest of honour, Sudershan Mehta while speaking on the occasion, assured the organizers of holding Cricket Coaching Camps in Akhnoor, adding that he had organized JKCA affiliated Coaching Camps at the venue in his previous tenure also.
Social worker Kuldeep Kour was present on the occasion.
Earlier, put into bat, Adarsh Cricket Club bundled out for a modest total of 109 runs in 18.4 overs. Kulbeer top scored with 38 runs off 16 balls, studded with 2 sixes and 2 fours, while Sahil contributed 27 runs to the total. Bhupinder chipped in with 16 runs. For SCC, Sonu Malhotra was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 important wickets, while Lucky Mehta scalped 3 wickets and Dilawar Singh claimed one.
In reply, SCC surpassed the target in 13 overs by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Chandan was the top scorer with 44 runs off 37 balls, including 2 sixes and 3 fours, while Gourav and Sunil contributed 18 and 19 runs to the total respectively. For Adarsh Club, Sunny and Bunty claimed one wicket each.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Vikas Bali as umpires, while Vinod Kumar was the scorer.
Apart from trophies and mementoes, a cash prize of Rs 3000 was also presented to the winners by the chief guest on the occasion.
