Sindhu wins the coveted gold medal

Indians, especially women, often make history with their feats and skills abroad resulting in making their motherland proud. Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, an Olympic and World Championship silver medallist became first Indian on December 16 to win BWF World Tour Finals tournament. She had a clinching win over 2017 world champion Nozomi Okuhara in the title clash in Guangzhou. She, thus, emerged as an Indian super star by showing more concentration, patience and dexterity in her game play against her Japanese contender and surprisingly demonstrated more skills than her previous meetings. Her exuberant play was such that gave no breathing place to Okuhara. She demonstrated her compose, ease and held her nerves at the crucial moments of the game and was duly rewarded. The country and the countrymen feel proud of such talent in our sportspersons.
It may be recalled that Sindhu had unfortunately lost in the summit clash to Akane Yamaguchi, another ace Japanese in the last edition, but this time she put in a brilliant all round display to give no chance to Okuhara in the final by earning 21-19 , 21-17 in a match that lasted more than an hour.
As one should never give in and also be satisfied never at less than at the top, Sindhu fell short of laying her hand on the gold on a number of occasions but this time, on account of her superb play, she managed the coveted yellow grabbing which, she sunk to her knees screaming with joy. Needless to add, Saina Nehwal had reached the finals of 2011 World Super Series Finals while Jwala Gutta and V.Dijju finished as runners up at 2009 edition. Sindhu , on the other hand with Olympic and World Championship exposure, took early leads allowing her opponent make a couple of errors and used some drop shots and looked quite confident. In short, Sindhu grabbed three game point advantage while Okuhara managed to save two before Sindhu sealed the opening game with a superb drop shot.
Sindhu endorses a number of brands including Vizag Steel, Bank of Baroda, Panasonic Batteries, Bridgestone, JPL headphones and other top brands. However, the star player is known for her simplicity and humility which makes her popular across all age groups of India. She could well be an inspiration for the emerging talent in the country.
