SI among 3 injured in students, police clash

MENDHAR, Jan 6: A Police Sub Inspector and his driver were among three persons injured in clash and police vehicle extensively damaged as the Govt Degree College students resorted to stone pelting  on the cops in Mendhar town today.
Reports said that a police naka party near Degree College, intercepted a college student Moteen Ahmed ( BA Part-III), son of Mohd Riaz, resident of Sakhi Maidan going on without number plate motor-cycle. The police asked for the documents and license. As the boy had no papers with him since the vehicle was  recently purchased. The police office intended to challan the bike rider. In between the boy had tiff with the cops. Upon this, the cops beat up Moteen Ahmed.
Some college students who noticed this, rushed there and some of them resorted to stone pelting on cops. SI Pankaj Singh and his driver Rohit Sharma were injured in stonning. The vehicle was also extensively damaged. Later, the police reinforcement rushed there and SHO Sadaqat Qureshi also reached. The students then blocked the road and started protest.
Later SDPO Surinder Choudhary and College Principal Prof Shabir Hussain had meeting and after it the tension was defused. The injured SI was later referred to GMC Hospital Jammu. The police has registered an FIR against 5 college student. The college students have also forwarded  counter FIR through college principal to the police station.
