Shutdown in Baramulla, Shopian

SRINAGAR, Mar 8: Baramula observed shutdown today over the death of a man after he was hit by a police van in Delina area of the district last evening.
Abdul Aziz Ahangar, 65, died after he was hit by a police vehicle on Wednesday evening. The family has alleged that police tried to arrest their son Tawseef Ahmad Ahangar on the same evening and while trying to foil police attempt, father of the youth, Aziz, was hit by the police vehicle resulting into his death.
Shutdown was observed in Delina, Baramulla against the incident. Shops were closed and there was huge deployment of police and paramilitary forces to prevent protests in the area.
Authorities suspended Internet and rail services in Baramulla as a “precautionary measure.”
Shutdown was also observed on the fourth consecutive day today in Shopian district against the recent civilian killings.
Shops, business establishments, Government and private offices remain closed in the district while public transport was off the roads.
On Sunday evening, four civilians and two militants were killed in Army firing at Pahnoo village.
And Police and CRPF were deployed at sensitive locations in the district to thwart any violence.
Mobile internet service in Shopian remain suspended on fourth straight day after authorities snapped the service on Monday.
Clashes erupted in Monghama village of Pulwama district this evening after security forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in the area.
A group of locals resorted to stone-pelting to disrupt the CASO. However, security forces fired teargas shells and aerial firing, to disperse the protesting youth.
The search operation was launched after specific inputs about the presence of militants.
