LEH, June 29: Expressing their resentment over alleged physical abuse by SHO Leh, taxi drivers staged a protest here by blocking the road for hours.
The road from Petrol Pump Chowk to Leh Gate remained suspended for hours causing inconvenience to public and tourist in particular.
It is reported that SHO Leh reportedly physically abused the said taxi driver besides SHO also reportedly damaged the taxi by purposely banging his car into the taxi. The tourists who were travelling in the taxi refused to give their statement saying that they don’t want to involve in the incident.
The agitated drivers led by the Ladakh Taxi Operator Cooperative Limited Chairman demanded immediate removal of SHO and initiate a fair inquiry into the incident.
Taxi Operator Chairman Dorje Wangchuk said that we had lost our faith in administration where local officer that of law maker breaks the law by physically abusing a driver. At the same time he appealed the drivers to be polite and act in amicable and responsible manner to avoid bringing bad name to Ladakh. He admitted that due to their protest many including sick patient and tourist suffered but they were forced to come on street due to such attitude of SHO.
Later, the drivers suspended their agitation after SSP Tsering Gyalpo and Hill Council Chairman Dr Sonam Dawa assured them that a free and fair inquiry will be conducted in the incident and DySP Peer Zahoor has been assigned the duty of inquiry officer, who will submit his report in two days time.
Meanwhile, SHO Stanzin Dorjay who is on three days leave has been attached to SSP Leh Office and Additional SHO SW Namgyal has been assigned the charge of SHO.
