Shivani emerges top ranking sport climber of India

JAMMU, Mar 19: Shivani Charak, an ace sport climber of Mountaineering Association of J&K, has added another feather to her cap by becoming the top ranked sport climber of India in women’s category as per first ever national rankings issued by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the apex body for adventure sports in the country.
Two other sport climbers of J&K Asma Gul and Ajay Deep Singh also figure in the list of top 10 climbers of the country. Whereas Asma Gul is ranked 6th in the junior girls category, Ajay Deep Singh has grabbed the 8th spot in the junior boys category.
Shivani Charak who competed in eight out of the nine ranking competitions last year won 2 gold medals in lead climbing, 1 gold in Bouldering and 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in speed climbing and collected 631 points to finish at the top of combined rankings for women.
Prateeksha of Bangalore and Shivpreet of Punjab, both international climbers, secured the 2nd and 3rd rank with 570 and 530 points respectively.
Other J&K climbers in the national rankings are Arun Deep Singh (11th) in the junior boys’ category and Shilpa Charak (23rd) in the women’s category.
Shivani who is now completely focused on Olympics to be held next year at Tokyo, Japan is preparing for the Olympic Qualification Event to be held at Toulouse, France in August this year.
