JAMMU, May 25: Shiv Sena Bala Saheb Thackeray Jammu and Kashmir Unit staged a sit-in demonstration today against the privatization of power sector and appealed for free electricity and water to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Party State President Manish Sahni said that free electricity and water was the fundamental right of the people of J&K.
He said that what has been given to Jammu and Kashmir for the last seven decades was openly publicized, but what was being taken from here was never mentioned.
Sahni said that there was a stock of resources in Jammu and Kashmir. Throwing light on water resources of Jammu and Kashmir, Saini said that Union Territory can produce that much electricity, which can meet half the country’s consumption, including J&K.
Saini further said that according to an assessment made by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in 2017, about 20,000 MW of power can be generated from the water sources of Jammu and Kashmir.
“J&K Union Territory despite being rich in resources, we are being sold at expensive prices,” Saini said.
He further said that after 2014, there was a continued conspiracy to privatize electricity and once again under the garb of lockdown, efforts were being made to privatize it.
Sahni said that the plan of plundering the resources of Jammu and Kashmir will not be allowed to succeed at all, adding that they will make people aware that getting free electricity and water were their birth rights.
He appealed the leaders of all the parties to raise their voice against privatization.
Prominent among others present during protest were Working President Ashwini Gupta, Vice President Sofia Sago, Secretary Raj Singh, Vikas Dewan and Raju Salaria.
