REASI, Feb 25: 19th Shiv Khori Kesari Dangal (wrestling competition) was held at Ransoo, base camp of holy shrine to mark the successful completion of three day annual Shiv Khori mela.
The dangal which is locally known as Shinj was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with Tourism Department, Shiv Khori Dangal Committee and district administration Reasi.
Minister of State for Finance and Planning, Ajay Nanda was chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Nanda emphasized the need for inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship and its role in national character building. He said the event has become cementing force between people of different regions and provides encouragement to the local wrestlers. Dangals keep the youth away from many bad habits like drug addiction and inculcate principles of self discipline in them.
38 bouts were fought during the competition in which local wrestlers and wrestlers from various parts of the country participated.
Farooq from Sarore, Jammu was declared winner of Kesari Dangal and was awarded Rs 5000 and other gifts. The first runner up Nisar from Doda won cash prize of Rs 3000.
The second and third bouts were won by Gurmail from Chandigarh and Neeraj from Delhi, each winning cash award of Rs 3000.
