Shifting of Bandipora Distt Hospital

One could understand the logic of patients put to discomforts on account of being housed in a dilapidated hospital building but they should continue to suffer despite a modern multi storied building for the hospital awaiting occupancy is not understandable. Such instances can amuse literary figures to write fictions and poems but to an ordinary person it looks quite strange and a fit instance of administrative recklessness if not inefficiency.
The condition of the old Bandipora District Hospital building is such that doctors posted there have to examine their patients in makeshift sheds, that also outside the main old cramped building. As if it is not enough, the attending medical staff has no facilities  even to wash and disinfect their hands and the equipment. In other words,  the fear of spreading infections could not be ruled out. Even surgeries are postponed because of non availability of beds  and thus working capacity has been affected .
To resolve the issue of overcrowding in this hospital catering to the needs of over 40 villages and facing acute space constraints, a new building at a cost of Rs. 24.32 crores was sanctioned to be constructed, the work on which started in the year 2000 which since stands completed in all respects and now is ready for occupancy but lies unutilized till date. We are, however,  told that by the end of the next month , the shifting could take place which we expect shall be done looking to the problems of the patients and the difficulties of the medical staff.
